Laguna Salada de Torrevieja is a salt lake near Torrevieja, Spain, a seaside city on the Costa Blanca in Alicante, south-eastern Spain. Torrevieja was originally a salt-mining and fishing village, located between the sea and two large salt lakes. The natural phenomenon where the water of the lake turns pink at times during the year is due to a special algae that grows in high level salt.
