Join us for a summer escape to the land of ice and fire in the middle of the North Atlantic. We will take you out to see the most famous sights around the Golden Circle and the South Coast of Iceland. As a finale you will have a day and night at the Blue Lagoon for a soak in the warm healing waters.
Day 1 – Arrive Reykjavik
Arrive into Reykjavik and take the door-to-door Flybus to your hotel in the centre of town. The afternoon and evening is yours to explore this compact city. Be sure to check out the new Harp Opera house on the harbour. Approximately 1 hour from the airport.
Visit the new Aurora Reykjavik Museum in the heart of downtown, which opened May 2013. It is Iceland’s first educational and recreational Northern Lights Center where multimedia is used to explain when, why and how the Northern Lights work, with the highlights being large HD projection of the Auroras.
Day 2 – Day tour visiting the Golden Circle, highlights include the Geysir Hot Spring, Strokkur, Gullfoss Waterfall, and Þingvellir National Park
After breakfast, you will join a day tour to the Golden Circle region of Iceland where you can see the famous sites of Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area. During the day, you will have an opportunity to walk among the bubbling hot springs that surround the famous Geysir and watch the Strokkur geyser, which spouts water sometimes up to 30m high, every 10 minutes!
Visiting Þingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient Viking parliament and listed as a UNESCO’s World Heritage site, will be our first stop. There we take a walk to experience firsthand the geological phenomenon that is the Mid-Atlantic ridge.
From Þingvellir we head east over Lyngdalsheiði. Following a mountain road with great views of the rugged lava fields, passing Laugarvatn lake, we arrive at Haukadalur, home of the great Geysir and the reliable Strokkur geyser that erupts with 3 to 7 minutes intervals. Next, the magnificent Gullfoss awaits us as it comes cascading down the white colored Hvítá river.
Return late in the afternoon. Lunch will be a stop enroute at a local cafe.
Day 3 – Visit the South coast of Iceland including Skógafoss Waterfall, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Eyjafjallajökull Glacier View, Reynisfjara Black Beach, Sólheimajökull Glacier View and Vik
An early start to travel to the south coast of Iceland with its black beaches, picturesque waterfalls and magnificent glaciers. On our way we witness the many sides of Icelandic nature and culture. Skógafoss Waterfall, Reynisfjara Beach, Sólaheimasandur Glacier view and Vík Village are among highlights. Farms, small villages, horses grazing amidst Glaciers, active geothermal areas, black sand deserts and terrific cliffs will capture your eye and provide endless photo opportunities. We arrive back in Reykjavík early in the evening, giving you plenty of time to explore the downtown area, with its museums, cafés and shops, before dinner.
Be sure to carry warm clothing, rain gear, good shoes, bathing suit and towel. During the tour we break for refreshments at a local restaurant or café.
Day 4 – Blue Lagoon afternoon of relaxing
After a relaxing morning in the Icelandic capital, transfer to the Blue Lagoon for a therapeutic afternoon and evening in the healing waters of the Blue Lagoon. Stay overnight at the Northern Light Inn, which is just a stone’s throw from the international airport.
