The air is brisk. There is snow falling on the frosty ground. Festive lights are twinkling amongst the cool, silvery white. A fireplace is crackling indoors. Carols are playing in the background. The anticipation of a magical Christmas fills the air.

There is something about the brilliance of a white Christmas. It’s what childhood dreams are made of. The atmosphere is captivating and the scenery truly enchanting.

Reconnect with your inner child or spoil your children and plan a truly magical white Christmas with our dazzling Christmas destinations.

Finland

Top of our list? The unofficial home of Santa Claus, of course!

Finland will truly capture the imagination of your children (and your inner child!).

It’s Santa’s mission to spread the magic of Christmas all over the world, so the Elf folk built him the Santa Claus Village. Here, at the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland, is where you can even meet Santa in his hometown

Spend Christmas getting cozy with traditional, freshly baked ginger bread biscuits, “Glögi” (a mulled wine infused with spices) and Santa Claus? Yes, please!

Austria

Picture beautiful lit towns and store fronts decorated impeccably with Christmas decorations as part of Austria’s deeply rooted Christmas traditions.  Complete this picture with a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Austria is truly a magical Christmas destination.

Austria’s Christmas markets are a tradition that can be dated back centuries. Each town in Austria holds their own Christmas markets from late November each year. Our favourite Christmas markets have to be the picturesque Salzburg markets, held in front of the Cathedral of Salzburg. The church bells ring Christmas in, the lights glow on the snow-covered roofs and towers and a choral sings. With a large programme of events and the most beautiful stalls you may ever see, the Christmas markets definitely top the Globetrotter team’s lust-list.

Outside of the large cities, Austria is a captivating country with beautiful people. We cannot recommend visiting Hallstatt highly enough. It is a fairy-tale town, nestled deep between the mountains and a lake. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and has to be one of the prettiest lakeside towns in the world.

Switzerland

A Christmas tree decorated with 10,000 Swarovski crystals. It will take your breath away. Located at the largest indoor Christmas markets in Europe in the main hall of Zurich central station, this Christmas tree is a destination all of its own.

While in Zurich, plan a romantic evening to experience the traditional ‘Lichterschwimmem’. The event sees 800 floating candles launched on the River Limmat.

If a quiet Christmas isn’t your style, St Moritz should top your list! Known for being the winter playground of the rich and famous, St Moritz is the original winter holiday destination. It is chic, elegant, exclusive and exciting. Located at an altitude of 1,856m, it offers reliable snow, intermediate skiing and some of the quaintest exhibitions.

Prague

Prague at Christmas will steal your heart. It is picturesque, romantic and a true winter wonderland.

Christmas in Prague starts on the Feast of Mikulas, which is around the 6 December. A perfect reason to start celebrating early! You can browse the Christmas markets, visit the Christmas tree in Old Town Square, enjoy some mulled wine and the food – all the food!

Offering an unparalleled gastronomy experience, shopping, attractions, festive concerts, cruises, the ballet…. Prague has something for everyone!

New York

New York, New York. You have our hearts at any time of the year. Christmas in New York, though, is especially magical. The snow laden streets light up to make one of the most spectacular sights.

A Christmas vacation in New York wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Rockerfeller Centre Christmas Tree. It’s worth braving the crowds to join other festive fans and spend the night ice-skating, watching the Lighting Ceremony and watching the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

Christmas decorations adorn the stores along Fifth Avenue, the Empire State Building lights up in red and green, Christmas markets appear all over the city… A Christmas in New York will be one to remember!
