In the comfort of your train and cruise boat, watch fjord scenery with beautiful ice waterfalls, deep valleys and snow covered mountains.
Enjoy an easy snowshoe hike for an exceptional view of the fjord at Stegastein viewpoint in Aurland, tuck into a Viking Dinner at Ægir Brewpub and enjoy the historic Fretheim Hotel with elegant drawing rooms, candle lit dinners and cozy atmosphere.
This tour can be modified and extended as you wish. We have lots of little extras that can be added to make it even more special. Simply ask us for details.
Day 1 – Arrive in Oslo
Arrive to Oslo and make your own way to your central hotel in the heart of Oslo. The Norwegian capital has a great deal to offer for the discerning traveller. If you arrive early, we can recommend a walk around the centre of town to view the Parliament, the Castle & the Harbour area. Overnight in Comfort Hotel Grand Central or similar with breakfast.
Day 2 – Depart Oslo by train and enjoy the spectacular journey to Flåm
Catch a train from Oslo to Flåm. The train journey over Northern Europe’s largest mountain plateau is spectacular. In the comfort of your train, watch fjord scenery with beautiful waterfalls, flowing rivers, deep valleys and mountains.
In the afternoon, you check into the hotel in Flåm.
Day 3 – Snowshoe hiking to Stegastein or fjordsafari
Today you will enjoy a guided hike into the local mountains, for an exceptional view of the fjord at Stegastein viewpoint in Aurland. Experience how it is to hike on traditional snowshoes. The spectacular landscape has shaped the way of life here for generations and you will stop several times during the tour to share the guides’ passion and knowledge about the area. As on traditional Norwegian snowshoe hikes, there will be served hot beverages to warm you up. The trip is suitable for beginners and is a fun way to access nature during the winter season. General fitness is required, but no experience is needed. Ths trip is available from January to March.
Another alternative is a winter fjordsafari. Experience the Aurlandsfjord, the UNESCO world heritage Nærøyfjord and the charming little village of Undredal during wintertime. The many waterfalls will be frozen solid, the fjord is calm, the water clear and the snow lies just like frosting on the high, steep mountains. On our return we will visit Undredal, idyllically situated on the shores of the fjord, surrounded by high mountains. In Undredal we will visit the local shop where you will be served some hot beverages and hear from one of the locals what life is really like living along the fjord. Here you will also have the opportunity to sample and buy the award winning local goat cheese. This trip is available from November to March.
This evening, be sure to head out to Ægir Brewpub for a viking dinner or a local ale.
Day 4 – Train journey from Flåm to Bergen
The day starts with a spectacular 2-hour fjord cruise from Flåm to the tiny fjord village of Gudvangen. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Aurlandsfjord & the Næroyfjord – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Gudvangen you change to the connecting bus to Voss, taking you through the beautiful Stalheim canyon with the Stalheimskleiven hairpin road (May to September). In Voss you change to a train that takes you to Bergen.
