Longyearbyen is 2.50 hr flight from Oslo or 1.35 hr flight from Tromsø and a scenic one as it skirts the long coast of Norway. On arrival, there will be a local airport bus waiting to take you into Longyearbyen, a short drive away.
Check into the Basecamp Hotel and head off for stroll around the small township of Longyearbyen – enjoy the polar museum and church. The midnight sun makes it possible to explore Spitsbergen day or night – so you have plenty of time to explore.
When the snow starts melting at the middle of June, it is time to start using dogcarts instead of sledges for dogsledding in Longyearbyen. On this trip you will be driving a cart in pairs, with 5-6 huskies in front. The guide will help you harness the dogs and drive in front of you with his own team and two guests. The trip goes through beautiful Adventdalen towards Endalen, which offers unique arctic scenery and lots of reindeer! After the trip, its time to enjoy a hot drink and a biscuits in our Russian cabin.
Return back to Longyearbyen with time for a walk or explore during the afternoon.
You will meet your guide at 10:00am at your hotel. It’s time to explore the close by mountains of Longyearbyen. Start the hiking from the old cable way station, hiking upwards until you reach the top of Plateau Mountain. From the top you will get a spectacular view over the city, the surrounding mountains, Adventfjorden and Isfjorden.
You will follow the mountain range and make a longer stop with warm drinks and snacks on the way. Go back down again by the Longyear glacier, walking the last bit back to town on the road. This trip is suitable for anyone with normal physical condition. We recommend taking a small backpack with extra snacks and cold drinks. Feel free to bring your own lunch.
