Fiona Prosser – CEO, Globetrotter Travel & Incentive Lab

What motivates you in your job?

I am motivated by many aspects of my job, including the constant changes and challenges within our industry. I am motivated when team members demonstrate resilience, tenacity and go above and beyond to better themselves and to assist Globetrotter to achieve success.

What is a tough truth about being a female in a leadership role?

Women all over the world are making an incredible impact in leadership roles however in general we are strongly under-represented. In my opinion, there is still a gender bias in our society which makes it difficult for many women to transition into leadership roles. Both men and women need to be educated on gender bias ensuring leadership is inclusive and diverse whilst focusing on positive outcomes rather than meeting gender quotas. We need to empower and elevate each other.

Who is a female leader that inspires you?

Wow there are so many, if I had to instantly name one it would be Melinda Gates, she could easily have chosen a different path however she has chosen to use her position and wealth for good. She is very generous and has created the world’s largest charitable foundation. The foundation’s mission is to help all people lead healthy, productive lives which is just wonderful. She is also a great advocate and devotes much of her focus to women’s and girls’ rights.

Closer to home, I have been inspired by Jacinda Ardern who in relative terms is very young for the position she holds. She is testament and a great role model to demonstrate with the right support you can be a great leader and mother at the same time.

What is a tough truth about being a female in a leadership role?

Balancing work with my personal life, at times it has been a juggling act, but with flexibility I have been able to create a healthy lifestyle for both myself and family.

Who is a female leader that inspires you?

Who I know personally I would have to say our CEO Fiona Prosser. Someone I don’t know but respect for longevity and commitment to her role would be HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

Felicity Neary – Head of Client Strategy West Coast

What motivates you in your job?

I just love to help others, it really doesn’t matter if it is a client, colleague, friend or relative.  It gives me a sense of fulfillment, confidence and satisfaction that I can be of some help.  The idea that I might provide some assistance, or a solution is what motivates me to do a good job.

What is a tough truth about being a female in a leadership role?

As a millennial I grew up with a working mother and father who helped at home, it was also instilled into me during my schooling that “women can do anything”. I feel very privileged that I have had minor roadblocks being a female in leadership however when I became a mother, I was surprised to learn that there still isn’t gender-neutral parental leave.

Paid parental leave entitlements vary in length, generosity and flexibility and the male breadwinner model is on the decline, which requires gender-neutral parental leave policies.  Flexible and generous parental leave policies that encourage men to utilise the entitlement are required to be truly supportive of females in any role.

Who is a female leader that inspires you?

Jacinda Ardern

Steph Kohlhase – Head of The Incentive Lab

What motivates you in your job?

There are so many things that motivate me in my job; our inspirational leader, our incredibly talented team, our amazing clients, our fast-paced industry dynamic, to name a few… However, I think the key motivator for me would be the feeling I get when we are successful. There is no better feeling than being onsite with the team, looking around at everybody having an extraordinary once in a life time experience and knowing that we were responsible for creating not only the experience but also the fuzzy feeling that they are feeling and will feel forever when they think back to this moment. It’s something special!

What is a tough truth about being a female in a leadership role?

That sometimes emotion is viewed as a weakness. I think showing and sharing emotion when appropriate has contributed to my success.

Who is a female leader that inspires you?

Oprah Winfrey – she has raised more than US $50million for charitable programs through Oprah’s Angels network.

Tania King – Head of People and Culture

What motivates you in your job?

My role provides me a unique perspective into our business. It gives me the ability to influence the future of the company based on employment decisions, and the opportunity to make a positive difference to our people’s working lives. Every day provides a variety of challenges and the opportunity to develop skills.

What is a tough truth about being a female in a leadership role?

The eternal juggling act between giving all to my role and managing a family.

The traditional challenges of inequality and discrimination thankfully I feel do not exist in our organisation.

Who is a female leader that inspires you?

Melinda Gates – her view is that empathy and love are the most powerful forces to change the world. She has worked tirelessly to advance equity around the world, to help make sure that, no matter where a person is born, he or she has the chance to live a healthy, productive life.
