Getting around

The airport express train is fast and efficient. Cost is approx. $20 AUD each way. Taxis are plentiful and cheap but sometimes a little stressful as the language barrier can be an issue. Do your research and have your destination address and route on hand!

Hiking

This metropolis is 40% protected by parkland, so there’s plenty of opportunities to go on a hike and take in the natural beauty. The Dragon’s Back Ridge is a short, relatively easy hike and incredibly scenic. You can take the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) to Chai Wan and just start walking.

Dining

My two favs were Duddells – upstairs al fresco and serving wonderful dim sum. Pricey at $130 AUD for lunch but this included unlimited choices of food and free flowing champagne – Veuve Cliquot! What more could a girl ask for?

The other was the China Club, in the Old Bank of China Building. This glam eatery is fabulous for ‘people watching’ and the views from the balcony are simply breathtaking! The food was the best authentic Chinese I have ever experienced and the ambience and décor all added to the experience. It’s a club so if you don’t know a member, ask your concierge to organise a booking for you.

Harbour views and a day by the China Sea

We were lucky enough to be taken by junk from Aberdeen for a day trip to Pui O beach, on Lantau Island. From the dragon boats in the Harbour to the holiday makers on the beaches, it was a colourful feast for the eyes …. and speaking of feasts, we lunched at Mavericks, a chilled-out restaurant/bar/shack overlooking the beach. Mavericks is family friendly with pretty basic décor, but the food was good and the rosé was chilled – who could complain?
