Abu Dhabi is a family friendly destination, but also great for those big kids at heart! You can ride the world’s fastest roller coaster at Ferrari World on Yas Island, also home to my favourite, Yas Waterworld - perfect for the hot days in the desert. Read more...
The Yas Island Marina Circuit is also here, where the Formula 1 Grand Prix takes place every year, and of course that’s not all, when in the desert you must do a night time desert safari! Driving through the dunes in 4WD’s, camel rides, falcon show, followed by a traditional dinner and dancing under the stars.
My recommendation is a three night stopover on the way to your destination, but if you only have a transit, there may still be enough time to leave the airport, head to Yas Waterworld for a swim before your onward flight, I did this on a six hour layover. The Grand Mosque should definitely be on your to do list (ensure you check the cultural guidelines and respect the dress standards), as should a visit or stay at the Emirates Palace for all of those Sex in the City Fans! Truly something for everyone and ever changing, I cannot wait to visit again to see what else has changed, particularly the completion of the Saadiyat Island Cultural District on Saadiyat Island, Arabic for “Happiness Island,” which will include a new Louvre museum and Guggenheim. If you’re looking for some adult fun and relaxation, then time a visit so you are in Abu Dhabi for Friday Brunch (Friday-Saturday is a weekend) most hotels and beach clubs offer an all you can eat and drink brunch which can be enjoyed pre and post a swim in the pool. I’m talking free flowing mojitos and champagne!!
