Brisbane and Cairns

My recent trip to Brisbane and Cairns started at Perth’s brand new Virgin Lounge – offering all you need from a small buffet breakfast including barista coffee, magazines and newspapers.

The Hotel Jen in Brisbane is a perfect location with large rooms offering a view of the city. I particularly enjoyed the restaurant at the hotel, the breakfast selection is extensive and if you’re in a rush you can fill a takeaway box. Read more...

I would recommend a visit to Southbank for dinner, the restaurant and bar scene is vibrant and fun with a huge selection of restaurants to try.

In Cairns I stayed at The Shangri-La, located right on the harbour with a wonderful view over the harbour and mountains. The Seafood Tower in the Restaurant is a must!!

On our second day we had a Full Day Reef Experience out on a lovely large Catamaran. Everything was included, snorkel gear, lunch etc. We unfortunately were unable to anchor and head over to the island’s beach, but were still able to snorkel or dive from the back of the boat as well as take the Semi-Sub.

Snorkelling for me was a first and I loved it! A wonderful experience and something I know I want to do again! Really a must if you are visiting Cairns and if you’re not a strong swimmer they provide life jackets and always have someone nearby.

Our time was only short and we were unable to visit the rainforest but this will definitely be something I will do upon returning!
