The Sagrada Familia is Barcelona’s most popular tourist site. It rises from Barcelona’s urban setting like a Gothic castle, with intricate sculptures and carved facades. This Roman Catholic church is a Unesco World Heritage Site, designed by probably Spain’s most famous architect, Antoni Gaudi. Construction began in 1882 but with less than a quarter of the projected completed, Gaudi died, and so work progressed slowly, but architects plan to complete it in 2026, the centenary of Gaudi’s death.
