An annual holiday particularly celebrated in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. On the other hand if it does see its shadow the groundhog will retreat into its burrow and winter will continue for 6 more weeks. Morning festivals are held to watch the groundhog, along with entertainment and various social events.
