Sigiriya is one of the most historical monuments in Sri Lanka. An ancient palace and fortress, originally a monastery & in the second half of the 5th century King Kasyapa decided to construct a royal residence here. The ruins and gardens can be explored , with a staircase of 1250 steps leading to the highest point of Sigiriya, on the way passing a series of frescoes and enormous lion’s paws that have been carved into the rocks, once you have reached the top you are rewarded with amazing views stretching for miles.
