Held on the first Sunday of October, Castro area gets closed down for the day (11am – 6pm) and it’s a fun day with entertainment, stalls and drinking on the streets. Founded by Harvey Milk in 1974 and entry fees are donated to charitable causes important to Castro community.
Castro is the gay and lesbian suburb of San Francisco and during the fair, everyone comes out to celebrate. Very friendly atmosphere and with lots of market stalls, entertainment and celebrity spotting! (had my picture taken with Armistead Maupin – author of Tales of the City) Plus it’s probably the only time you can drink on the street.
