The beautiful scenery covered with a mantle of dazzling white snow, the crackling frost and the magical winter darkness create a special atmosphere to bring in the New Year. The area is dominated by taiga forests, frozen lakes and misty blue hills and is one of Finland’s best known regions for guaranteed snow fall throughout the winter season.
On New Year’s Eve, we will celebrate with a special Gala dinner before watching fireworks and raising a toast for the New Year.
Arrival to Kajaani airport and transfer to Hotel Kalevala. Check-in to your room and prepare for a week of exciting activities.

After breakfast get-together with your New Year host; and get a few words
about the program. Guided Kalevala snow games: Let’s get to know each other in the spirit of fun winter races! On these playful competitions you need co-operation skills and imagination.
After lunch, embark on a two-hour snowshoe tour through the taiga forest and across a frozen lake.
Following dinner, end the day with an unforgettable evening under the stars, enjoying a campfire picnic while waiting for a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Start your morning with a taster experience, sampling Finnish traditions through husky, reindeer, and horse sleigh rides.
After lunch, enjoy a guided city tour that covers nature, history, and culture, visiting iconic sites. Following the tour, take some time to relax at a local coffee shop or do some shopping.
Later in the afternoon, meet Santa. Santa Claus has a residence in Kuhmo, and after a busy Christmas, he is now well-rested and ready to warmly welcome guests to his office.
After breakfast, start your day with the exhilarating thrill of a one-hour snowmobile safari through the snowy landscape.
Before dinner, join in a traditional Finnish New Year’s Eve game – Tin casting in the lobby, the tin will tell your future for next year. Then it is time for the New Year Gala Dinner with live music/DJ & dancing. Later, just before the midnight, move to the terrace for the countdown and fireworks. The party then continues inside the bar with dancing until the early hours.
Join a guided excursion to Lentuankoski Rapids to spot the rare white-
throated dipper, a unique winter birdwatching experience amidst the
stunning rapids. Snacks are enjoyed by an open fire.
In the evening, there is a bus transfer to the New Year Concert at the Kuhmo Arts Centre.
Spend the day at leisure or participate in optional activities like ice swimming, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing.Perhaps you might like to dedicate the day to traditional Finnish wellbeing treatments such as a smoke sauna and traditional Finnish bone setting. After these two, maybe also try a herbal jacuzzi, classical massage and peat treatments.
