Journey beginning and ending at Copenhagen, Denmark
Available: 2024-06-01 to 2024-09-30 starting from $4938 AUD
Welcome to Bornholm, the sunniest part of Denmark. Bornholm is an island rich in natural beauty with dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches. It’s a popular holiday spot, not only for Danes, but also the Swedes and Norwegians. Bornholm is however not very well known outside of Scandinavia, so this is a perfect place to meet and mingle with locals whilst enjoying the beautiful summer scenery.
Be sure to check out the Kadeau restaurant during your stay – a Bornholm treasure with sweeping coastal views and world class food.
Arrive Copenhagen at any time, meet your private transfer driver and check into your hotel centrally located in the centre of town. Enjoy twilight at Nyhavn with its celebratory feel and atmosphere.
Copenhagen has over the years become one of the world’s gourmet capitals. The city is also abundant with everything from small cosy pub style eateries, cafes with great coffee and establishments serving world class local beer to world class Michelin star restaurants.
Copenhagen is a wonderful summer city with numerous city squares and patios where restaurants open up to the street. The city centre is pedestrian and bicycle friendly, which creates a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere. At the small harbour inlet of Nyhavn you can enjoy a nice meal at one of the harbour side restaurants, or just buy a cold beer at the local bottle shop, sit down and enjoy the slow pace of life. Be sure to climb the tower of Church of our Savior to get an aerial view of the city – the spiral stairs were on the outside of the tower so not for the faint hearted!
This morning, meet your guide to have a private tour of Copenhagen and after lunch, enjoy an optional private culinary tour or hot tub on the canal.
Pick up a rental car and drive across the Øresund Bridge to Sweden, made famous in the crime series, The Bridge.
Continue towards Ystad (approximately 1 hour) and join the locals taking the ferry to Bornholm. The ferry takes around 2 hours so grab a coffee and some lunch as you watch the world go by.
Drive to your beach hotel and settle in.
Allinge Badehotel is located a few metres from the Baltic Sea, and only a 5-minute walk from the cozy town of Allinge. Næs Strand, a lovely, smaller bathing beach for both children and adults, is a stone’s throw from the hotel. Wake up refreshed and jump into the sea from the early hours of the morning. You can go for long walks along the rocky landscape, and possibly take the walk all the way to Gudhjem and the Heligdomsklipperne directly from the hotel along the water.
Strategically located, Bornholm has been fought over for centuries. It has usually been ruled by Denmark, but also by Sweden. The ruin of Hammershus, at the northwestern tip of the island, is the largest medieval fortress in northern Europe, testament to the importance of its location. Set off for drive around the island to explore its historic significance.
When you are ready to relax, stop at smokehouses, small cafes and garden restaurants. Swimming, beach walking, cycling and visiting local markets will fill your stay.
After breakfast, take a ferry to Ystad and drive to Copenhagen, drop off the rental car and stay last night in Copenhagen. Be sure not to miss visiting Tivoli this evening to enjoy the fun park on your final night.
After breakfast, private transfer to Kastrup airport.
