Spend Christmas this year in Northern Finland. Known for their seclusion, mountain views and aurora skies, the Levi Glass Igloos are the perfect spot for a White Christmas.
These well-appointed glass igloos are complete with private kitchenettes, showers, and toilets. Dinner is a Lappish affair and is served daily in the glass-roofed restaurant. Christmas Eve will be a special 4-course traditional Finnish Christmas dinner.
Fill your days with winter activities – dogsledding, snowmobiling and a reindeer safari. In addition, not too far away is the bustling ski resort of Levi for winter shopping, evening skiing and further activities.
Day 1 – Arrive Kittilä and transfer to your glass igloo accommodation
Transfer from Kittilä airport to your glass igloo via the warm clothing and boots pick up spot. Check in is from 4pm and once this is completed, settle into your glass igloo. Each glass igloo has a kitchenette, shower and toilet. The windows are insulated and electrically heated to keep them from frosting. The kitchenette is equipped with a breakfast set for two, electric stove, microwave, coffee maker and kettle, toaster and fridge. In addition, the igloos have a radio/CD player, a hair dryer and a socket for car engine heaters. At the centre of the igloo is a motorised double bed that can be converted into twin beds.
Enjoy your first evening in Lapland. With no light pollution and no noise you can truly feel the beauty of the Arctic night, admire the night sky and hopefully see the Northern Lights. Hear the silence of the wilderness and breathe in the cleanest air in Europe. Any clear night, grab a blanket, wander outside and watch for the Northern Lights.
Day 2 – Christmas Eve: Enjoy spectacular snowy views of Finnish Lapland on your husky safari before a special Christmas Eve dinner.
After breakfast, you will be picked up at 9.45am for your husky safari. Enjoy spectacular snowy views of Finnish Lapland and feel invigorating power of adrenaline in your body. Everyone will experience husky team driving (one is driving, one is sitting on a sledge). After the trip, have a warm soup lunch and hot drinks by the open fire. Programme is not suitable for families with small children.
Return to the glass igloos and spend the afternoon sledding around before your special 4-course Christmas Eve dinner is served at the Restaurant Aurora Sky, with it’s glass teepee windows.
Day 3 – The most traditional way to travel in Lapland is a reindeer sleigh. Today, make yourself comfortable in the sledge and prepare for this lovely journey.
How very Christmassy to spend it on the most traditional way to travel in Lapland, a reindeer sleigh. Today, make yourself comfortable in the sledge (2 persons per sledge) and prepare for this lovely journey.
This kilometre – long tour starts and ends at the reindeer farm ”Sammun Tupa”. This family owned old farm is hidden in the forest and gives you a feeling of pure Finnish tranquility and harmony. You will have a reindeer sledge ride in a winter wonderland. As the reindeer travels through the wintery landscape, you experience the sensation of eternity and being a part of nature. The pace is dependent on the reindeer – we have both young ones who like to race and calmer lead reindeer. Then we will have an overlook of the old farm and its home museum. Our guide will tell you stories of the past and present life of reindeer herders. Soup lunch and home-made local sweet pastry are served in an cosy old wooden cottage.
On return, consider a visit into Levi for shopping, late night skiing or some ice go karting thrills!! Shops are open today as Christmas Eve is the traditional day of Christmas.
Day 4 – Snowmobile Safari with ice fishing
After a boxing day sleep in, you will drive by snowmobiles to a snow white forest lake full of fish. Try to catch your meal, a rainbow-trout, by ice fishing!
