Overview

Spend Christmas this year in Northern Finland. Known for their seclusion, mountain views and aurora skies, the Levi Glass Igloos are the perfect spot for a White Christmas.

These well-appointed glass igloos are complete with private kitchenettes, showers, and toilets. Dinner is a Lappish affair and is served daily in the glass-roofed restaurant. Christmas Eve will be a special 4-course traditional Finnish Christmas dinner.

Fill your days with winter activities – dogsledding, snowmobiling and a reindeer safari plus a special Santa program. In addition, not too far away is the bustling ski resort of Levi for winter shopping, evening skiing and further activities.

Due to high demand, many of our Christmas tours become fully booked over the 24/25 December dates. Most of our tours now have pre-Christmas departures running just before the busy Christmas period. These tours include a Santa visit which is still very exciting to the children as Santa can talk to them about what they are hoping to receive from him and his preparations for his imminent departure. Flights and activities are also easier to prepare at this stage.

For more Christmas in Finland tours, see our wide selection here.

Day 1 – Arrive Kittilä and transfer to your glass igloo accommodation

Transfer from Kittilä airport to your glass igloo via the warm clothing and boots pick up spot. Check in is from 4pm and once this is completed, settle into your glass igloo. Each glass igloo has a kitchenette, shower and toilet. The windows are insulated and electrically heated to keep them from frosting. The kitchenette is equipped with a breakfast set for two, electric stove, microwave and kettle, toaster and fridge. In addition, the igloos have a radio/CD player, a hair dryer and a socket for car engine heaters. At the centre of the igloo is a motorised double bed that can be converted into twin beds.

Enjoy your first evening in Lapland. With no light pollution and no noise you can truly feel the beauty of the Arctic night, admire the night sky and hopefully see the Northern Lights. Hear the silence of the wilderness and breathe in the cleanest air in Europe. Any clear night, grab a blanket, wander outside and watch for the Northern Lights.

Day 2 – Reindeer Sleigh Riding, meeting Santa in his cottage and Christmas Eve dinner

How very Christmassy to spend it on the most traditional way to travel in Lapland, a reindeer sleigh. Today, elves will meet you outside the hotel and you will try with their help to find an old Lappish village where Santa’s cottage is hidden in the forest.

In the village we will get to know Santa’s reindeer and you will have reindeer drive in a winter wonderland. The speed is dependent on the reindeer – Santa has both young ones who like to race and calmer lead reindeers. After the sledge drive you will hear stories of the past and present life. You will even have a chance to feed the young reindeer!

Then it’s time to meet Santa in his cottage. After greeting everyone, Santa will tell greetings from Mrs. Santa. As a small gift from her he gives children some homemade ginger bread cookies and chocolate. Santa tells you stories about himself and his elves and about Christmas time. After a while Santa will take his book of secrets, where the elves have written things about all children. He will discuss things with each person and child. After discussions and noticing that all have been good boys and girls, Santa will give a small present for every child. Other presents he will bring you on Christmas. At the end of the visit you have possibility to take a photo together with Santa.

After the 30 min meeting with Santa, hot drinks and local sweet pastry are served in a cozy wooden cottage.

Return to the glass igloos and spend the late afternoon sledding around before your special 4-course Christmas Eve dinner is served at the Restaurant Aurora Sky, with it’s glass teepee windows.

Day 3 – Snowmobile Safari with ice fishing

After breakfast (pick up 10.30am), you will drive by snowmobiles to a snow white forest lake full of fish. Try to catch your meal, a rainbow-trout, by ice fishing! In case you are not lucky, the host of the lake has promised to cook delicious soup by the fire of his wooden hut. After the lunch the snowmobile safari continues round the fells to the summit of Levi and return back to your accommodation.

On return, consider a visit into Levi for shopping, late night skiing or some ice go karting thrills!

Day 4 – Enjoy spectacular views on your husky safari and reindeer experience

After breakfast, you will be pickup at 10:30 from Levi Igloo for a Husky safari. Enjoy spectacular snowy views of Finnish Lapland and feel invigorating power of adrenaline in your body. Everyone will experience husky team driving (one is driving, one is sitting on a sledge). After the trip, have a warm soup lunch and hot drinks by the open fire in a traditional hut on the farm.

After the lunch you will experience the silence of nature in a noiseless reindeer sleigh. Forget your hurries, just relax, observe surrounding forest and enjoy. During the programme you can also feed the reindeer with lichen and take photos. The guide will also tell you how to handle and treat the reindeer and you can try to catch wooden reindeer with Lappish lasso.
